When your new CVA Cascade arrives, you naturally want to get it unboxed and start using it, but you have to remember that we’re talking about a rifle. It’s classed as a deadly weapon – just like any pistol, AR-15 or shotgun – meaning that you need to adhere to best practices. This means following the safest steps as per the manufacturer’s manual.

What To Do Before Firing a CVA Cascade

If you’re the sort of person who often says, “To heck with the instructions!” when putting together flat-pack furniture, this is not something that’s wise to do when you’re using a CVA Cascade for the first time. So, you should spend a little time reading the manual from cover to cover, which will cover the following steps.

Clean the Rifle Before Anything

When the rifle arrives from the manufacturer, it will come with a heavy-oil coating and with the bolt action detached from the weapon. Your first step (before installing the bolt) is the clean the bore interior, as well as the outside of the weapon, while also visually checking the inside to make sure that there’s no round sitting in the chamber or obstructing your bore. 

Once you’ve done so, you should put the bolt into the action and ensure the trigger and safety switch works properly. Then try dry firing the weapon multiple times to check that the firing pin and safety are working as they should.

You don’t want to be firing the wrong rounds with your new Cascade, so definitely check that the rounds you’re about to use match the caliber inscription on the weapon. Once you’re happy that that is the case, you’re ready to start firing in a safe and controlled environment.
